Facebook is taking the next step in its ongoing quest to overtake Google as king when it comes to display advertising. With the expected purchase of the ad service Atlas, Facebook will be able utilize their enormous amount of user data and deliver ads outside of its actual social network.

2) Twitter jumps into the world of display ads

Twitter is introducing a new ad API this quarter that will let brands run automated display ads, similar to Facebook. This will certainly open up a massive new revenue stream for Twitter, but might also run the risk of oversaturating the social network with ads. Social Authority is what SEOmoz is calling it and it’s a new metric for determining the influence of twitter users. By using retweets as a primary indicator, this metric promises to break results into components and show users who their most influential Twitter followers really are.

- The ability to order Twitter users by their influence and find your most important followers.

- Access to a breakdown of influence factors like retweet rates and recent activity vs. historic activity of your potential leads.

4) Nomi brings analytics back to brick and mortar

In-store retailers usually don’t have the tools they need to track their customers but it may not stay that way for long. Nomi has created a platform that can track and nurture in store customers with the ease and efficiency of an e-retailer. The platform would track potential customers and leads by picking up wi-fi signals from those potential customer’s smartphones and it may just change the way we think of in-store analytics.
